Mechanical construction and turnaround services for refineries

Refinery work often brings several systems into one area and one controlled window: piping, boilermaking equipment, access steel, material handling and multiple trades. CNC Mechanical develops the work sequence with the site team around access, isolations, schedule and the prevention requirements provided by the client.

The service mix includes industrial piping, boilermaking, structural steel, millwright services and plant shutdowns. Each discipline retains a defined scope. Codes, credentials and site-specific methods are not assumed before the project documents have been reviewed.

Piping, equipment and field interfaces

CNC’s piping services include estimating, material procurement and installation for service piping, process piping, instrumentation or hydraulic tubing, and supports. Hydrostatic or pneumatic testing is included when specified. Pipe fabrication, inspection, heat treatment, painting and insulation are coordinated through subcontractors rather than presented as in-house work.

Documented boilermaking capabilities include tanks, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, furnaces, reactors, dust-collection systems, ID and FD fans, and controlled bolting for flanges. CNC owns heat-exchanger extraction equipment and develops lifting plans for heavy-equipment handling. The exact task and applicable authorization are confirmed before the work begins.

Published annual-shutdown experience

CNC documents experience planning and executing shutdowns requiring 50 to 500 workers under experienced superintendents. For a refinery, that capacity can support an annual or planned work package once schedule, work areas and trade responsibilities have been validated.

The Valero Energy (Ultramar) record lists a published value of $50.0 million. It identifies piping installation at the RCCC, installation of a gas line, pipeline piping at R712, piping at Dock D and an ethanol line at Dock G. It also identifies annual shutdowns and multi-trade work.

Prepare a workable refinery window

Provide available drawings and specifications, system boundaries, lifting needs, test requirements, shutdown sequence and access rules. CNC Mechanical can divide the request among the required trades and identify any information still needed for estimating and field planning.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

What refinery work has CNC Mechanical published?

The Valero Energy (Ultramar) record identifies piping installation, annual shutdowns and multi-trade work. CNC also offers documented piping, boilermaking, millwright, structural-steel and maintenance capabilities, subject to the approved refinery scope.

Can CNC Mechanical support an annual refinery turnaround?

Yes. CNC documents annual shutdown work for Valero and broader shutdown experience requiring 50 to 500 workers. Actual mobilization is established after the scope, schedule, access and client requirements are reviewed.

How is pipe fabrication handled?

CNC documents estimating and installation by its team. Fabrication, inspection, heat treatment, painting and insulation are coordinated with subcontractors. The contractual work split should state those responsibilities clearly.

What documents should accompany a refinery RFQ?

Include drawings and specifications, the equipment or line list, system boundaries, shutdown window, test and inspection requirements, lifting constraints and known site-access rules. Add the facility’s technical contacts for scope questions.
