Coordinated Pipe Fabrication and Field Installation

For pipe fabrication and installation projects, CNC Mechanical delivers industrial field installation supported by partner-coordinated fabrication. This model gives plant owners and project teams one clearly managed workflow for estimating, fabrication interfaces, field installation and turnover while accurately assigning each technical responsibility.

CNC does not represent pipe fabrication as self-performed. Its documented delivery model uses subcontractors for fabrication, inspection, heat treatment, painting and insulation when those activities are required. CNC coordinates those partner scopes and performs the field installation assigned to its work package.

Define the fabrication package before release

A fabrication request should be built from current, approved project documents. The release package typically identifies:

  • piping isometrics, spool drawings and revision status;
  • line classes, material specifications and bills of material;
  • welding, examination and traceability requirements;
  • dimensional tolerances and field-weld allowances;
  • heat treatment, coating or insulation requirements;
  • inspection hold points and release documentation; and
  • delivery sequence, identification and preservation needs.

CNC coordinates the handoffs between the project team, qualified fabricator and field crew. Applicable code responsibility, design authority, quality approvals and inspection acceptance must be named in the contract documents rather than assumed.

Field installation by CNC

Once released components reach the site, CNC can perform the assigned receiving, handling, fit-up, installation, support and tie-in activities. The exact scope depends on drawings, access, isolation, equipment interfaces and the planned operating window.

Installation may connect with CNC’s process piping, pipe supports and tubing and hydrostatic testing services. Connections to vessels or machinery can also require coordination with boilermaking or millwright services.

Quality records and turnover

Material documentation, fabrication records, examination reports, treatment records, field installation records and test packages should follow a project-defined turnover index. CNC reviews required handoffs and compiles the records assigned to its scope. It does not claim responsibility for documents or approvals assigned to a fabricator, inspector, engineer or owner.

Information for an RFQ

Provide drawings, specifications, line and spool lists, materials, code and examination requirements, partner qualification criteria, delivery dates and field-installation scope. Include site access, laydown, lifts, tie-ins, isolation, supports, testing and required turnover records.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

Does CNC fabricate piping in-house?

No self-performed fabrication claim is made. CNC’s documented model coordinates fabrication through qualified subcontractors and performs its assigned field installation.

Who handles inspection and heat treatment?

When required, specialist inspection and heat treatment are coordinated through project subcontractors, with responsibilities defined in the contract and quality plan.

Can CNC install the fabricated spools?

Yes. Field installation is a documented CNC capability, subject to the approved drawings, site conditions and agreed work package.

What records should accompany fabricated pipe?

Requirements vary, but the turnover index may include material, welding, examination, treatment, dimensional and release records as specified by the project.
